Creative Commons Legal Guide to PodcastingPosted by: Hoke Wilcox in Legal Issues for PodcastingProbably the most interesting thing I have heard on this subject is that “Fair Use” is an argument made in court! So be careful. It is always good to have infromation like this handy….

Podsafe Music NetworkPosted by: Hoke Wilcox in Legal Issues for Podcasting, Podsafe MusicHere is the grandaddy of all podsafe music! This site allows you to use any songs in your podcast. In fact artisit that post on the site agreeing to terms including the right for people to use their songs in a podcast. See the terms here. What you as a podcaster must agree to is: •You agree to report back to the system every track played One trick to this site is you must register with them before you can download music. You must have a valid RSS before they will let you login! They make it very easy to download songs (most are free) and report when you use their music. Great site and works good, there are so many songs it might be difficult to find ones that you like. Here are the podcasts I find both useful and interesting. All of these can be found on iTunes, you can also download episodes off their web sites. I listen to these every week when there are posts, and I have put in my descriptions ones that have had some inappropriate language, but this is only occasionally and not frequent in any. One word of caution, I do tend toward the geeky side! Daily podcast hosted by Tom Merritt, Molly Wood and Veronica Belmont that covers daily tech news. This podcast is posted very regularly and is normally posted in the afternoon. I generally listen the next day, but you could listen to it in the evenings too! DL.TV Digital Life TV Hosted by Patrick Norton and Robert Heron this podcast (video and audio) tends to be much more techie than any of the others and goes into more detail into specific products. It is a regular podcast that comes out on Tuesday and Thursday. You can also watch this streamed live from their web sites. The recently changed the time and I think it is live around 3 p.m. EST. TWiT This Week in Tech This is hosted by Leo Laporte of the old TechTv. Leo brings in many other hosts to talk about the tech news of the week. Generally lasts about one hour and is safe for high school listeners. They can get a bit campy sometimes. This podcast spawned several other podcasts and is now more of a network. There are several other podcasts at www.twit.tv. Paul Thurrott and Leo Laporte host this somewhat weekly podcast about MS Windows issues, new and upcoming projects. This is as close as I get to a podcast for just fun! Joe Deon a pilot with a “major airline†takes you in the cockpit to hear some interesting stories from both other airline workers, passengers and anyone else he can get to allow him to record them. He does an excellent job and this is a great sounding podcast. Since becoming a captain, I have noticed a sharp drop in the posting on this podcast but….still worth a listen!! There are occasionally some bad words so use with caution in the classroom. After a teacher confiscated an iPod in class, two students assaulted him in the hallway breaking his neck. While not paralyzed he does have two broken vertebrae. Great article that discusses some technology trends that should be on all our radars! Here are a couple of great resources for podcasting! One of the biggest benifits of using Firefox are the extensions. I have a few favorites that I like to install on Firefox, there are lots of these but here are my favorites…. GooglePreview Brings up a screen shot of the page within Google searches. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/189/ Google Video Downloader Adds a button to the lower right hand corner of the brower screen that allows you to download video from sites like, Google Video, YouTube and others! https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2390/ Google Browser SyncAllows you to synchronize bookmarks and other browser settings on different computers…even on different platforms! ! http://tools.google.com/firefox/browsersync/index.html Google NotebookWith Google Notebook, you can browse, clip, and organize information from across the web in a single online location that’s accessible from any computer. Planning a trip? Researching a product? Just add clippings to your notebook. You don’t ever have to leave your browser window. del.icio.us Keep, share and discover all your favorite things. This is the “classic” official extension for del.icio.us, updated to work with Firefox 2.0. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1532/ Stephen Rahn from the ETTC @ KSU has created this presentation on RSS. Enjoy! Check out Stephen’s web site and blog…. Introduction this is the audio file…. Show Notes…. Music Links… Little Thom (opening and closing music) …ok really check this guy out…he lists prime numbers as influences This is the company that hosts this site. I have not used them very long but so far I am very happy with their support. Most problems were fixed within minutes. The down side is that this the only way to contact them! Not sure how that will work but so far so good! They also offer a Moveable Type site too! This is the presentation in PDF format on Podcast. This is one of my favorite podcasts. He is not updating them as much as he used to but what a great example of what a podcast can be! Enjoy this one! Offers one basic plan, with 15 gigs of storage and one click installation of several popualr web sites (WordPress, Moodle, ect.) price ranges from 6.95 - 9.95 depending on contract length. We have built upon the “all rights reserved” concept of traditional copyright to offer a voluntary “some rights reserved” approach. We’re a nonprofit organization. All of our tools are free. jamendo operates based on following rules :
jamendo is a new model for artists to promote, publish, and be paid for their music. On jamendo, the artists distribute their music under Creative Commons licenses. In a nutshell, they allow you to download, remix and share their music freely. It’s a “Some rights reserved” agreement, perfectly suited for the new century. These new rules make jamendo able to use the new powerful means of digital distribution like Peer-to-Peer networks such as BitTorrent or eMule to legally distribute albums at near-zero cost. jamendo users can discover and share albums, but also review them or start a discussion on the forums. Albums are democratically rated based on the visitors’ reviews. If they fancy an artist they can support him by making a donation.
This is an excellent free hosting service. One of my favorites for sure. You get 100mb of storage and so far this has not been widely blocked by the school web filters!
This is great option for recording on the go! Very portable and good sound too. I am using a Shure SM58 Microphone here. Marantz PMD660
Notice this post says higher end and not “high” end. High end equipment could included microphones that cost more than all of these components together! Complete Professional |
